Object>Path>Divide is not working for paths made on a grid

I made a shape with the pen tool and then put a grid over it. I wanted to use the paths on the grid to divide the shape but it is not working. I make sure the path was above the shape, I tried just cutting with the scissors, and even making another shape with the pen tool but nothing works.

That’s because your grid does not close.

the lines should overlap or at least connect.

I can cut it to pieces but the top 6 cut, the bottom three stay together and I cannot cut them evenly.

With the grid on top. Select everything, Window > Pathfinder and click on the Divide tool (bottom-left) in the Pathfinder window.
Then R-click > Ungroup.

It only does a portion of it when I divide and ungroup it. I have tired arrangind the grid on top piece by piece to get it to cut but it still only does the divide in parts with the pathfinder tool.

Yes, I have but it only cuts it in parts, 6 of the pieces will divide but the bottom third will not cut as three pieces, but one. even after I ungroup them.
