Object shifts when pen is lifted

I'm using a Wacom Intuos tablet with Illustrator CC.

When trying to precisely place an object, I often accidentally shift the object as I lift the pen away from the tablet surface. This may just be poor technique on my part but is there a way to lock the object in place whilst I lift the pen?

I'm sure others must have encountered and solved this but I haven't been able to find any solutions so far.
