Objects drag around when I only click them

When I click on an object for some reason Illustrator thinks I'm dragging it, so even if I'm not holdling down on the mouse it still stays locked with my cursor. It only stops dragging when I click a second time. I'm using a mac if that helps

Just adding a new comment here even though it's two years later. 🙂 I'm on a Mac for reference.
1. Click on your artboard in Illustrator.

2. Chose the "Preferences" button next to "Document Setup".

3. In the "General" tab, unclick "Double click To Isolate".

4. Restart Illustrator and hopefully that solves your issue.

I was having the issue after installing Display Pilot 2 for my BenQ monitor, when the app is open I get the issue, when i exit out of the app, everything works fine. Try and exiting out all runing apps and figure out what's causing the issue.

Can we get this fixed please? It still seems to be an issue. I'm having EXACTLY the same problem.

It's probably the Magnet app that is causing it.

Ha! How did you know that?! I turned off the MAGNET App for window snapping and it started working fine. I never would have suspected that that would have affected Illustrator. Thank you!

For everyone else, if you're using a Window snapping app, try turning it off and see what happens. Thanks again, Monika

Which kind of pointing device are you using?

If it's a mouse, then which one?

I have the same issue, and did the same, restore and reinstall. Didn't work.

Completely uninstalling and reinstalling Illustrator did not solve the problem, so I have no idea what is wrong

I'd try restoring your Illustrator preferences. Reinstalling probably won't change the preferences in your copy:
