Offset Path is crooked.

Hi, I am doing a negative offset path on a shape. The result i'm getting is that the offset shape is crooked or angled for some reason. Snap to (grid, pixel, point, glyph) is all off.

Sounds like one possible workaround could be a simple action that would:

 

  1.  Do an Offset Path with an offset value of 0,05 mm.
  2.  Assign a note to the new path (Attributes palette).
  3.  Immediately do another Offset Path with an offset value of - (minus) 0,07 mm.
  4.  Select the path with the note and delete it.

.02 mm? that's less than a 1/10th of a pixel, what's why...

Yes. But Illustrator can actually assign that as a stroke and align it to the outside and then expand that stroke. So the Offset path result is not logical (and I'm seeing it as well).

But isn't it a display issue?

Mathematically Illy can do it, but practically how do you show a 1/10th of a pixel on screen?

What is your Illustrator version?

 

There was a problem with small offset values in some older versions. 

 

But you can also try [Strg/Ctrl]+[E]  -->  switch between preview in CPU/GPU

Illustrator v27.3.1

 

I also tried switching between views, but the offset patch was still looking crooked.

You are right. Tried it with Illustrator 27.3.1

 

With an offset of 0.025, there is no problem. But with any value smaller than 0.025.

    Can you please show a screenshot of your shape selected with the Direct Select Tool so we see how many anchor points are there?

    I count 6 anchor points.
