Offset Path not an option

I recently purchased AI for a project at my job and am trying to offset a path for a font in order to give it a bold appearance. When I go to OBJECT -> PATH then all of my options are not available to be clicked. We purchased the full Creative Cloud so there shouldn't be an issue. Can someone please help.

Or use a stroke contour for your text. You will need the double width because of strokes on text objects are always aligned to the "middle".

Try Effect>Path>Offset

Offset path is not an option for text objects.

You could use the offset path effect instead (Effects > Path > Offset Path).
