Question

Opening Files in Illustrator cs6 using tags

Please excuse the use of the CS6 Im just very comfortable with it 🙂

My question is, when I design, I save as (the filename) but I also add tags as part of the description (ie dog, smile, bone etc)

When I try to open a file in Illustrator the tag label is greyed out (see below for the link to image) and I can't seem to find how to search by tags in finder either.

Apologies for the rookie mistake but it's driving me crazy

Cheers

It is not resolved, probably because it is not possible as you experienced.

You may want to make a feature request here:

The link you supplied Ton, offers no help, tey are suggestions, all I masking for is how to search by tags in OS. When I design I tag it, why then cant I search for tags like I can keywords?? For example a design I create will be saved as "Bobs Plumbing" but underneath I will tag the design in Illustrator with 'pipe', 'water', 'faucet' etc. The tagging enables me to find a designs with those tag words in as 'Bob' or 'Plumbing' will not bring back the results I want. Is this clearer?

You may have a look at adding keywords, in Illustrator using File > File Info or Bridge, which allows you to add and search for files with them.

Mac OS also supports these keywords and allows you to search them (in the top right corner) when opening an Illustrator file.  Correction, keywords in Illustrator files do not seem to work in the Open dialog, pdf, jpeg and other files are working. Bridge is better supporting keywords in .ai files...

Tom

Thank you for this I tried adding keywords in File>Info---no good

I searched In Bridge and you have to check "include Non-indexed files (may be slow) in order to get any type of results. This way of searching is soooo time consuming, in one instance it took 10 minutes find, this is obviously no good at all.

So frustrating it MUST be easier to locate files via a tag!!!!

I presume this is a mac thing.  I don't have a "tags" field in CS6 in windows.
