Opening PDF Files Automatically Creates Matching AI Files in Illustrator 30.5

Whenever I open a PDF-file in Illustrator, illustrator automatically creates an ai-file with same name. How can I stop this behaviour? It started after installing 30.5 (or something)

Hi @ihansama,

Thanks for reporting this. To better understand what's happening, could you please provide a few more details?

As the expert mentioned, it would be helpful to know the exact steps you're taking and at what point the AI file gets created. Could you also confirm your current exact Illustrator version (for example, 30.5.0 or 30.5.1) and your operating system version?

If possible, please share a short screen recording showing the PDF file in Explorer/Finder before opening it, opening the PDF in Illustrator, and the AI file appearing. Additionally, could you confirm whether the AI file is created immediately upon opening the PDF, or only after a save, or any other action occurs?

Looking forward to your update.

Abhishek

Mac OS 15.7.5, Illustrator 30.5.1
I drag and drop PDF-file to illustrator and illustrator creates ai-file immediately.

Can you perhaps describe the steps? Exactly when does this happen? When you open? When you save?

  1. Open PDF-file
  2. Illustrator creates ai-file

But it seems like this only happens when opening PDFs created in non-Adobe software.
