Overwhelmed!

I purchased an SVG to cut on my Cricut. The artwork is wonderful, but I can't get the hidden lines to disappear. I tried to use Shape Builder, but everytime I do, I lose large portions of the project. I attatched the SVG with this post. I'm very new to Illustrator and I would like to understand what needs to be done to fix this thing. Anyone up for a challenge?  Please, help this noob out!

I didn't keep it. All I did was select all the objects and then hit the button "Merge" (bottom row, third from the left)

You could try if selecting all and then using the Pathfinder Merge does it as you want.

This is what I get:

I'll try. This file might give me the practice with Pathfinders that I really need. I'll keep you posted as to my progress.

If you're trying to remove portions of objects that are overlapped by other objects stacked on top you'll have to use Pathfinder commands such as Minus Front to cut away those parts. I'd recommend working on copies of the objects, perhaps on layers above the original, to prevent losing original parts when a Pathfinder command is applied.

Thanks, Bobby. I'm not sure how to use Pathfinder. I'll find a video for that. As far as making a copy, I have several that I tried to repair. I will research Pathfinder and give it a go. Thanks again

The part that is messing me up is the amount of layers and duplicate lines. Do I work on each layer, or on the project as a whole I was viewing and repairing in Outline, as that is where I saw so many "ghost" lines.
