Paintbrush Tool freezes in AI

My paintbrush/Blobbrush tool stops painting after I use it for a minute or two. It just stops painting and stops pretty much any other functions from working also. Once I reboot AI the other functions come back but when I go to use paintbrush/blobbrush again the same thing happens. Anyone have any ideas? It happens whether I use my mouse or Wacom pen.

Yes, it did work correctly at one time but that may have been the 2019
version of AI. I purchased the 2020 version recently.

Can you try and check some settings in the Preferences > File handling and clipboard? Disable the save in background.

And then turn to the Performance and try and disable the "live drawing preview"

Also maybe try and select View > Preview on CPU.
