Painting over selected area

Hi guys!

I was wondering if it is possible to apply the brushtool only over a selected area of an object.

In Photoshop, I would use the Marquee tool to select the part that I want to paint over. The paint of the brush-tool is then only applied to the area of the selection.

Is there a similar method in Illustrator?

Thanks in advance!

Not a selected area, but you can create a shape and use Draw Inside.

This creates a mask for the the shape.

I think we can agree that Draw Inside is the best solution 🙂

One way is to use the so-called Draw Inside mode.

It will create clipping groups.

Clipping masks.

Draw the shape, then use the "Draw insde" button on the tool panel. Then use the brush tool to draw inside the clipping mask.
