Pan with keyboard only

I hate the hand tool.  It is a very slow, very old school way of panning compared to other programs.  Is there a way to pan using only the keyboard?  Or anything besides the scroll bar and the hand tool?

while using the Scroll wheel, press and hold Ctrl key to pan

using keyboard only, press pgUp/pgDn keys to move the screen up/down. Press and hold Ctrl key to move side ways.

Thanks that definitely helps.   Isn't there like a key to hold and I can pan with the arrows, or a key to hold and it will switch the scrolling direction on my mouse wheel (realize this uses the mouse, but still better than the hand tool)?

Do either of these shortcuts work for you?

    • Spacebar + drag the mouse is the shortcut for the Hand tool.

    • On my Mac, the scroll wheel pans up and down and
Command plus the scroll wheel pans left and right.
