Paste graphics on a text path

Why ID (InDesign) can paste graphics onto a text path but Ai can't?
By copying the graphics and pasting them onto a text path, the graphic's SVG code would be pasted onto the path. Is there a way to work around this?

You could create a color font and then do it. Limitation: color fonts are RGB.
