Paste is possible while editing text

I hit ctrl b on accident while actively editing a text layer, and realized it did a paste behind (according to the shortcut).  Call me old fashioned but this really shouldnt happen WHILE you are editing text, in the event user hits the wrong context sensitive shortcut (ie, italicize etc) which might be intended for font styling or kerning etc.  Additionally, user may be zoomed into the edited text field left unaware of the paste that occured, potentially entire artboards away.  I dont think this used to be possible, and I'm of the mind it shouldn't be allowed.  After a bit more testing, it appears that depending on the contents(maybe ?) the text representation may be pasted at the cursor with ctrl v.  But Ctrl B and Ctrl F definitely paste the actual object.  This is on illustrator v29.8.2 x64 win 11 pro, reproduced on multiple computers.

I'd rather agree with your complaint, smithany. The behaviour may cause some trouble.

You may want to report it on Uservoice as an unexpected behaviour.

Hi @smithany,

Thanks for reporting this and for sharing such a clear explanation. I'm checking this internally with the product team to understand if it's by design or an unintended behavior, and I'll update you here once I have more information.

Appreciate your patience in the meantime.
Abhishek

@smithany that is correct.

Thank you for confirming but its my strong suggestion that is a mistake, or should not behave that way.  You should be editing the text when you are editing the text.  Pasting something outside the active edited object seems like a mistake for the user experience.
