Question

Pathfinder does not work properly

See Video to understand the issue.
Like, are we for real? This is the professional app we’re paying for every month? This is the quality I have to work with?

Adobe has lost its path. Can’t even use absolutely basic features anymore. Quality is steadily declining.

And don’t blame me for posting this in this forum. I googled and tried to find a working bug report link, which is nonexistent or hidden. This is so utterly untrustworthy, it’s not even funny.

@wnwka I think you are right. It has nothing to do with GPU/CPU Preview but probably the way circles are described with Bezier curves. The diameter of a circle is not everywhere the same. A way you can avoid this is by using the Add Anchor Points option a few times or a script that lets you create a circle with many anchor points.

@wnwka If it is about precision. You can change the number in the Pathfinder options. Higher precision (like 0,001)produces more accurate results.

It’s a bug, it alters the shape even on extremely small precision.

I’ve to add. The reason I’m doing it this way is that Illustrator did not show me the »round corner« option, although the corners consist of one point.

@wnwka You are zoomed in to 64000% Can you change from GPU Preview to CPU Preview (Cmd E)

GPU Preview is fast but not always correct. In case of doubt, switch (temporarely) to CPU Preview.

Are you referring to that part on the bottom left of that quarter circle? Your initial drawing was not precise.

You can clearly see that the path changes after I hit the Pathfinder.
How can a perfect circle not be »precise«? It’s not a drawing, it’s a perfectly shaped circle.

The app should be working precisely enough to make such an easy cut and not change its shape.

It is not perfectly aligned and I thought that was your problem.

Do you have any snapping turned on?

How is the Pathfinder precision set up?

Can you describe step by step what you did and what you want to achieve. Pathfinder Divide works as expected on my machine.

I did nothing other than the steps shown in the video, you can literally see the whole process. There are two shapes above each other, using the pathfinder changes - or should I say destroyes - the shape completely. This occurs when the circle is not perfectly aligned with the corner, so the moment the app adds another point to the shape, it shouldn’t be occurring at all.

In your example, the circle is cut perfectly on the points, which is not a representation of my example.

The most important point is that there appears to be no way to report this, or it is hidden.
The links I’ve found so far lead to dead ends or to generic FAQs.
