Question

Pathfinder is not working correctly in Illustrator 2020 on macOS Mojave

I updated to 2020 and the pathfinder items I have as symbols are totally screwed up. If i open the symbol — it breaks in weird ways. When I try and fix them, it doesn’t behave correctly. Like a subtract will just add. things like that.

anyone else?

Hi there,

We are so sorry to hear about the trouble you are facing with the Pathfinder tool. I would request if you can share a few more details like:

  • Operating System you are working on?
  • Few screenshots or a small video of the issue.
  • Is the issue related to a specific document(s)/asset(s)? If yes, could you please share the document(s)/asset(s) with us? You can upload it to the creative cloud and share the download link.
  • Does resetting Illustrator Preferences (https://helpx.adobe.com/in/illustrator/using/setting-preferences.html) help resolve the issue?

Please note that resetting preferences will remove all the custom settings and Illustrator will launch with default settings. This way all your old settings will be saved in .old folders and Illustrator will recreate new folders with default settings.

We’re here to help, just need more info.

Regards,

Srishti

So this is a compound shape inside a static symbol and the placed symbol instance doesn't look right. But as soon as you enter symbol editing mode it looks better.

Does that only happen with symbols?

Just in this file?

Or generally with all objects you create?

Maybe this is a case for http://illustrator.uservoice.com
