Question

Patternmaking preview

Will adobe illustrator on the iPad and the desktop develop a pattern making preview? A patternmaking preview such as in affinity designer allows the designer to see a finish pattern as they are making it. The  pattern preview helps a designer to see where there are possible gaps in their pattern.  I understand that Adobe illustrator has a PatternMaker which is like a preview but it is not as effective as a pattern preview so I wonder has Adobe illustrator consider adding this feature?

I just took a look at that tutorial on how to do it in Affinity Designer. And the process is just like in Illustrator (desktop). The only difference is that in Illustrator you are actually creating a pattern swatch while in Affinity Designer you don't. The process is a workaround, because AD has no vector based pattern swatches.

But if you want to mimic that workflow in Illustrator (desktop), talke a look at the transform effect. On the iPad you could check out the Repeat function. But it won't give you a repeatable pattern as the result. It will create a grid.

If you want to have a swatch to send to a printer, you can drag the swatch out of Illustrator's swatches panel and create an artboard that has the size of the invisible rectangle. And this will give you the file you need.

Hi. Since this is a User to User forum, and we're not told anything more than anyone else, I recommend maybe posting this as a feature request at: mhttps://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/931888-illustrator-ipad-feature-requests
