Question

PDF created with Illustrator shows progressively appearing layers

No matter what settings I use, when I save a PDF from Illustrator and open it with Acrobat it has a weird behaviour. Basically it seems to quickly "load", and while loading every single element (images, shapes, text) of the file starts appearing progressively, creating a very unpleasant effect. Like I see elements appear one after another, first an image, then another, then text, shapes etc. Obviously the lighter the element the quicker, but the loading is not my problem, rather the "progressive appearing effect". I can go with the loading but I would rather see the image white for a second and then the "whole page" appear...

Does anyone has this same problem?
Is there a way to avoid this by setting something in AI export?

I have seen a similar behaviour a couple of times while using recent versions of Acrobat on rather old Mac machines (about six to eight years old). No matter what application actually created the .pdf file.

So, are you sure that it only happens with .pdf files that are exported in Illustrator?

Hello @Marina27186060f51u,

Sorry to hear about this experience. Would you mind sharing a few details, like the exact version of the OS and Illustrator installed on your computer, the system configuration (CPU/GPU/Memory), and screenshots of your export settings, as suggested by Monika, so we can investigate this further?

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Anubhav

Is the Optimize for Fast Web View checked when saving the PDF?

This is mean to display the pdf in chuncks, but from your description sounds more like displaying a heavy document.

How large is the file?

How much RAM is installed on your computer?

How many apps are open?

When did you last reboot the computer?
