Question

PDF opens in Illustrator with missing data

Hello,

I am fairly new to Illustrator and just trying to get the hang of things.

My issue is that I am trying to open a PDF (line chart generated by Excel) in Illustrator but only one quarter of the line chart appears when opened.

There were quite a few data points (~3 million) so I am wondering if Illustrator has a cap on the vector complexity or if this is a hardware limitation on my end.

*Edit:

The file is 300 KB.

Thank you

You might try opening the PDF in Acrobat DC and the extract the line chart from there into Illustrator using the Edit Using feature. Here's a video tutorial about the Edit features in Acrobat DC: http://www.jeffwitchel.net/2015/08/edit-pdfs-like-never-before-in-acrobat-dc/

It might be a little tricky with a line chart, in that you'll have to select all of the pieces of the chart in Acrobat before opening it in Illustrator.

Illustrator is not a general purpose PDF editor.

You might try and place the PDF and then Object > Flatten transparency
