Pencil tool cursor symbol and alt key Windows not as expected

Hi,

Looking at Pencil Tool use. Help says on Windows, Alt key should change the cursor symbol to a small circle to indicate it will create a closed path. I get a horizontal line ( _ ) instead.

Also I do not get the Join symbol (square with lines either side) when looking to connect two paths. The paths do join, but I am wondering why my symbols do not match expected behaviour.
