Performance issues with Illustrator and Photoshop on macOS

Long time MAC user since 1990. HATE the new Creative Cloud Crap!! For one, the price is annoying and expensive. For two, they give you few options for purchasing, i.e. it's either one program for 19.99 a month or ALL of them for $52.99. Like most designers, I don't need ALL the programs. That is stupid. For another thing, I have a fairly new Mac, with the faster processor. Rarely had any problems with my old CS6 Illustrator, very rare. Ever since I have gotten on Creative Cloud, it is slower than ever!!! Constant spinning wheel of death, every time I first open the program, click the type tool, or pretty much anything. I am constantly forced to update, however this last update for Illustrator must have had something wrong in it, because now it constantly says it cannot load the calligraphic brush tool .aip plug in! It's all done behind the scenes and I never mess with anything on my own! Just today I absolutely am unable to even use Illustrator as it constantly quits on me. Even when it did work it's slower than molasses. I had to update Photoshop too, so then I had wait and wait and wait for it to finally re-open. I used to LOVE Adobe products and rave about them, and talk people into getting them. Now I tell everyone don't buy it!! They suck!!!! I'm seriously going to look into switching to Corel Draw, no joke. I can't stand these inferior and practically useless products that I am paying $52.99 per month for. I think it's sad, really.

Hi there,

I am so sorry about this frustrating experience with the latest updates. That's definitely not a typical experience with creative cloud applications. Let us make this right for you. Would you mind sharing a few more details like:

  • Exact version of Illustrator and mac operating system.
  • Is the issue related to a specific document(s)/asset(s)? If yes, could you please share the document(s)/asset(s) with us? You can upload it to the creative cloud and share the download link.
  • Where the files are saved (Network Drive/ System HDD/ Shared Folder on System /External HDD)?
  • When did this start happening? Are there any recent changes made to your system? For example, any antivirus, system updates or web extensions installed recently.
  • When it quits, does it give any crash report? If yes, please submit that by following the steps shared here: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/illustrator/kb/crash-next-steps.html
While submitting crash report use the same email address, with which you are signed in on this community. This will help us finding the crash report and help accordingly.

We’re here to help, just need more info.

Regards,

Srishti

There are some known issues, please check if they apply:

- Dictation in your system needs to be turned off

- Files on servers or in synchronized folders work for some, but not for all. Same applies to files that are linked in your AI projects

- Illustrator needs a default printer set up

- have you already tried rebuilding your preferences?

If all of those don't improve your situation,

please contact Customer Care: http://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html

They can login to your system to check this out.
