Question

Perspective grid automatically resets to default

I use the perspective grid tool to label 3D illustrations. I have been having the issue recently where; when I open an existing file that was built using a customized 3-point perspective grid, the grid has reset to the default 2-point perspective grid. The primary issue is that my perspective text is displaced. If I "view>perspective grid>three point perspective>my saved custom grid", the perspective grid is expanded and stuck in the default 2 point perspective projection.

I have spent hours re-doing the work and each time the issue reoccurs when I open the file the next time.

PLEASE HELP!

I opened the file on another file. The result is the same. Is it possible that the file is corrupt in some way each of the files that this has occurred with came from the same master file.

Try with a brand new file and see if the same thing happens.

It does not happen with a new file. The perspective grid settings save with the file.

Is there anyway to fix this in my other files? These files are several weeks worth of work.

It may be time to reset your Illustrator preferences. There may be some corruption since this behavior had not previously been happening.

To reset prefs:

For Macintosh Users: With Illustrator closed launch a Finder Window in column view and click on your home folder. With the Option Key pressed choose Library from the Finder Go Menu. Within the Library folder find the following two files and delete them: “Adobe Illustrator <Version #> Settings” (earlier versions of Illustrator might just say “Adobe Illustrator”) and “com.adobe.Illustrator.plist”. When Illustrator is next launched it will create new preference files and the program will be restored to its defaults.

After you’ve reset up the program (make sure that no document window is open) to your liking, it is a really good idea to create copies of your personalized “mint” preference files (make sure that you quit the program before copying them—that finalizes your customization) and use them in the future to replace any corrupt versions you may need to delete.

For Windows Users: Hold down Ctrl + Alt + Shift when launching Illustrator and respond affirmatively when asked if you want to reset.

Hi Bill,

Thanks for your response. I am using windows 10. I reset my preferences, closed Illustrator, opened my file, relabeled the file (with text in perspective), closed illustrator, re-opened my file. The result is the same as before where the perspective text is displaced and the perspective grid is automatically reset to the two point default grid.

Any other ideas?
