placing files with transparency issue illustrator cc latest version - 6/22/2020

Hi all, can anyone help me with what seems like a probably simple problem?

As of the new update which i did yesterday, I cannot get a file with a transparency into illustrator.

PSD or PNG files with transparent backgrounds convert to solid white backgrounds on import - by either import method- using place , or by dragging  file in.

is there something i need to check or uncheck somewhere?

I've had this problem sporadically in the past but with PNGs but never PSD files.

help! gotta get my work done! any advice?

thanks!

I managed to get the PSD file to work for me, the PNG still a no-go but I'm guessing it's the same issue.

thanks!

for anyone with this problem...

In photoshop:

Image>Mode>if it says "indexed" switch it to RGB or CMYK

Can you upload one of those PNG or PSD files?

On Mac OS with version 24.2 I can't replicate the issue.
