Placing illustrator File Into Photoshop

Hi - 

For awhile, I create a file in Illustrator then place it into Photoshop.  This has worked fine, including yesterday.  Suddenly, I'm getting 'program error' and the file will not place.  i've tried changing to a PDF and am still running into the error.  The only thing that has changed is I closed out both Illustrator and Photoshop and started them up again.  Thanks for any insight.
