Placing large amount of images into Illustrator

Can Illustrator mark the files I already have placed in a document rather than using my memory?  This would help also in checking I have placed them all rather than checking off a list comparing links to the finder window.

You mean mark them in the folder on your harddisk? That would be interesting, but so far it's a one way street. Maybe make a feature request?
