preferences not sticking

Question

Recently i got tired of the Myriad Pro default font and wanted to change it.

I did so by going to 'window / type / character styles' then using the hamburger menu, select 'character style options'

Doing so should allow me to click the first option 'basic character formats' and change the global default font.

Or at least that's what i thought. It sticks in that document, but if I close Illustrator and open it again fresh, it reverts my changes back to Myriad Pro and all other changes.

Am I doing this wrong?

You need to change the font in the document profile you are using for new documents.
