Preparing a pdf file for uploading

I have created a  sewing pattern file in Illustrator with the intention of selling the pdf file as a download.

It is 291 MB.

It has 47 letter-size pages.  The first 3 pages, the instructions, have jpg images on them.

The following pages have line drawing with 8 layers, each layer a different size.

It's getting to the point where it looks great when I open it in Reader.

I'm trying to figure out how to share this file.

I've tried a few services, including right from reader, using Send & Track.

Everything I try eventually says the file is too large.

Is there something in Ai that I should be doing to prepare this file for what I'm trying to do?

If you are saving the PDF from Illustrator, make sure to (save a copy) with the option "Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities" turned off in the General tab.

In the compression Tab try the Downsample options and set the compression to JPEG and test the kind of Image Quality (try Medium).
