Problem with embedded AI file

I'm trying to place an AI file in Illustrator. It looks fine when it's placed, but after I save the file as EPS and reopen it, the image is messed up. Are there any settings that would affect this? It works when I copy and paste the same image.

An update: This was a problem with strokes. I turned off "Scale Strokes & Effects" before I reduced the size of the image that was placed, and it's working correctly now. The strange thing is, the strokes were fine until I saved and reopened the file, and then they were very thick.

Did you apply strokes in that placed file? Looks like they have been made fatter.

Without knowing what is inside that placed file, it's difficult to advise. Also: is there a reason for this workflow? And: since this is a logo: I would not leave strokes in it. I would outline them to prevent exactly this.

I can't upload the AI file, so I saved it as EPS. I hope that's helpful. It does look like there are strokes that are wider than they should be, but I can't find a way to prevent that from happening.

You could place the AI file in your other file, then select it and Object > Fltten transparency. Outline the strokes.

This will embed the file and outline all the strokes. You might want to use some pathfinder operations to clean this up. You cannot easily update that linked AI file anymore, but that seems to be the only way to prevent that from happening. Is there any reason for this workflow (placing the AI file and then saving an EPS)?
