Problem with illustrator

I paid for a subscription to adobe illustrator...I downloaded it..it worked fine. I even did a tutorial with it.

Then I opened it again, and noticed next to the arrow a blue spinning disc kept blinking off and on. It doesn't go away.

I'm able to go all the way to having a new document open ready to create a new design. But the spinning disc seems to never go away and I'm only able to click tools in the pallet, but i cant change them. This is also prevents the fold down windows from opening. if i go to 'file' to shut down the program the menu immediately disappears? Any idea of how to remedy this issue?

I had something similar. I uninstalled the software, removed my preferences and then reinstalled. This has helped me most of the time.

You should try to remove it from your computer, update the system (if you need it) and then set it up again. I had trouble like that this morning and I solved this way.

    Which system?

The spinning disk sounds like it's some Mac OS, but which one?

When did you last restart that computer? Maybe it's time to do so.
