Thanks for sharing the details. Since the issue still occurs even in Safe Mode, please try resetting your Illustrator preferences and see if that helps. You can refer to this guide for the steps: Reset preferences in Illustrator. Also, please update Illustrator to the latest version 29.8.2 and check if the problem persists after that.

Once done, relaunch Illustrator and test the copy-paste function again. If the issue persists, please share a screen recording demonstrating the whole workflow(issue in action).
