Problems bringing large format png's/psd into Illustrator

Hey all! I made a large format banner/truck wrap in photoshop and need to redo it in Illustrator and am trying to save and bring the elements from photoshop to Illustrator. I've tried saving the background and the edited/photoshoped image separate as png's, then as .psd's. I tried to save as a TIF as well but it was too large. When i try to upload them into Illustrator no image shows, just the bounding box. Any tips or tricks to alleviate this?

What is the resolution of your image? It can be something like 196 mb at 72 ppi or 3,32 gig at 300 ppi.

Often a high resolution is not needed  when the result is seen from a distance.

Currently it is at 300, photoshop crashed every time i try to scale it down to 72, maybe something i'll need to just rebuild

Yes 300 ppi is overkill. Multiple images at that resolution does not make it easier to work with.

Hello @Graham25220703q5u1,

We understand that encountering technical issues can be frustrating. Would you mind sharing some more details, like the exact version of the OS/Illustrator, system config (CPU/GPU/Memory), whether Illustrator behaves this way with all files, and a screen recording of your workflow and the problem (https://adobe.ly/46Ji1tk), so we can better assist you?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,

Anubhav

Currently running Sonoma 14.6.1, Illustrator v28.6. Running a Macbook Pro 32GB, Illustrator doesn't perform like this in any other way just with this specific issue.
