Problems Deleting points from an object layered over multiple objects

When I am trying to delete a point on an object that is layered over multiple objects and the points are on top of each other, it CONSISTENTLY deletes points from an object layered below it, even though I have the top object selected. I have to manually move each point I want deleted to a clear area not close to any other points to actually delete the ones I want deleted. This has never been an issue until the 2020 update and it makes me want to pull my hair out.

Sometimes using the "outline view" helps because you can select design elements more accurately.

Hi Allison,

Thanks for reaching out. Would you mind sharing some more information like:
1. Exact version of OS and Illustrator.
2. Is it happening with a specific file or with all the files?
3. Do you save files locally or on a network?
4. Have you tried resetting preferences? (If not, please try doing that. You may follow the steps provided on https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/setting-preferences.html#setting_illustrator_preferences)

**Please note that resetting preferences will remove all the custom settings and Illustrator will launch with default settings. You can also take a backup of the folders in case you want to. Location is mentioned in the article.

You can also share screenshots or a small video of the process with your post. All this information will help us understand the issue and work accordingly.

Regards,
Ashutosh

1. macOS High Sierra Version 10.13.6 / Illustrator 24.0.1

2. It happens on all files.

3. I save both on my desktop/hardrive for personal work( about 10%) and I work off a VPN and save to my work network for most of my work (about 90%).

4. I just tried to reset the prefences using the keyboard shortcut the link suggested and it did not fix the issue.

Thanks for the quick reply!
