Problems exporting .eps into PDF

I am working with a smoke .eps, and what I did was just drag the smoke onto my illustrator photo file and it works perfectly fine. Looks good in .ai files too.

When exporting to .pdf, black background appears. I've tried exporting in to .png but it looks fine.

Any idea that this would affect printing?

And are there any ways to fix this problem?

Thank you so much.

And that EPS was vector based? Or raster based?

Which color mode are you working in?

What are your export settings for the PDF?

Vector based, RGB .eps file to a CMYK .ai file, PDF: High Quality Print

The smoke effect most probably relies on blending modes. They work differently in CMYK and RGB color mode. I have no idea what you did differently previously.

But working with these effect files in CMYK color space is asking for trouble.
