Problems or difficulties with mesh tool

In Illustrator, when I use the mesh tool and click on Ctrl and on the "eye" layer, the view mode does not work, which allows me to see the mesh, but I do not see the gradient running. Is it program problem? Can you help me? What can you do? I notice that I pay monthly to use Illustrator. I await your return. Thanks. Ana Lúcia

What does it show instead?

Can you show screenshots before and after that include the layers panel.
