Problems placing PDF in Illustrator

Question

I'm using Acrobat version 24.004.20272 and Illustrator 2021 version 25.4.8. I have a PDF file of a logo and when opened in Acrobat it is the logo on an 8.5 x 11 page. In Acrobat, I crop the file to just the logo 3.41 x 2.01 and save the file. When in Illustrator I place the PDF file, it still shows logo inside of an 8.5 x 11 border. I have tried ungrouping, release mask and expand and nothing changes. I'm not sure what else I can do except open the file in Photoshop and save it as a PDF from there. Any idea what would be causing this to happen? The placed file shows no security settings in Acrobat. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the quick reply Monika,It didn't occur to me that it might be an Illustrator file saved as a PDF. Was able open the file and change the artboard size.Thanks again!

Which problem do you want to solve with editing in Photoshop?Why not open the logo in Illustrator, make the artboard smaller and then export the PDF?
