Problems typing Polish letters in Illustrator

Without any noticeable reason, typing Polish letters (Right Alt + a/e/c/o/l/n/s/z) in Type tool text editing mode has stopped working.

THIS IS NOT A SYSTEM KEYBOARD LAYOUT ISSUE.


I am able to type Polish letters in several Illustrator input fields (e.g., Search), but it does not work when using the Type tool. When I try to type Polish letters while editing text with the Type tool, different options/shortcuts are triggered instead.


This happened to me once a few years ago, and now I’m experiencing it again. The problem has clearly existed for a long time, and as far as I can see, there is still no fix. In my case, resetting preferences and even reinstalling Illustrator did not help. It seems like the Adobe team does not care.

    That’s not a solution at all…
     

    What helped in my case was changing the system language to Polish (I had to download and install the Polish language pack). Before that, I was using English as the system language with the Polish programmer keyboard layout. Apparently, the keyboard layout alone isn’t enough for Illustrator (there were no problems with Photoshop, for example).
     

    To the developers - this can be problematic, especially on corporate machines (like mine), where you don’t always have administrative privileges.

    I’ve bumped into the same problem.

    Obviously one can’t have all the right function in Adobe crappy software. If backspace works as undo in lasso selection then polish letters stopped working.

    There was a time when both backspace worked the way it should, AND polish letters were ok - but back then photoshop was freezing after initial use of half of it’s tool just as if it was loading the document in hope that those tools won’t be used.

    The proposed solution helped. It wasn’t needed in other software - but if it works it’s ok.
