Properties are blank

I'm not sure why but the properties are blank with the new illustrator update (19.0) on windows. My InDesign is also entirely blank. The new adobe update has made it difficult to use all adobe apps.

Try updating Illustrator to 28.1 which may fliush out the issue, and restart your computer and the creative cloud app.

Hi @Marcus25021610tiut,

It seems you're experiencing an issue with the Properties panel in the new Illustrator update (v28.0) on Windows. However, there's a small correction: InDesign is on version 19.0, not Illustrator. The latest Illustrator version is v28.0.

As Bobby said, the Properties panel is never completely empty, as it should display some information even when no objects are selected.

Here are some steps you can try:

  • Switch to a Different Workspace: Switch to a different workspace, such as "Essentials Classic" or any other, and then make slight custom changes to suit your preferences.
  • Reset Preferences: Sometimes, issues like this can be due to corrupted preferences. You can try resetting Illustrator preferences by pressing and holding Ctrl + Alt + Shift immediately after launching Illustrator. You should see a dialog box asking if you want to reset your preferences.

  • Renaming the UXP Folder: If resetting preferences doesn't work, another option is to rename the UXP folder. This folder may contain extensions and plugins that can sometimes interfere with normal operation. To do this:

    • Close Illustrator.
    • Navigate to the following location:
      • C:\Users<Username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\UXP
      • C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe
      • C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\
    • Rename the "UXP" folder to something else, like "UXP.old."
    • Restart Illustrator and check if the issue is resolved.

If these steps don't resolve the problem, please provide more details about your system, including the operating system you're using and any recent changes or updates you've made to your computer. This information can help further diagnose and address the issue.

We're here to assist you in getting Illustrator working as it should, so please don't hesitate to reach out with any more details or questions you may have.

Best regards,

I don't think I understand what you're meaning by properties being blank with the new version. Also, the latest version of Illustrator is v28.0. Maybe you're thinking of InDesign (which is on v19.0 now). Are you talking about the Properties palette? When the Properties palette is open it usually displays some information even if no objects are selected. That would be pretty odd if the Properties palette was blank.

New version installations also often reset the user interface back to basic Illustrator defaults. That makes everything look pretty blank. One of the first things I do is switch to a different workspace, such as Essentials Classic and then do a couple slight custom changes.
