I am a big fan of Bat Out Of Hell The Musical and would like to create a puzzle book for the cast and fans alike. I have contacted Bauer Media about this, who publish Take a puzzle (the magazine I subscribe to) and they suggested using Adobe Illustrator. Is this good advice? Have you got any recommendations on the Adobe software to use?

    Tommy,  Hi.

To add to what other members have said, Adobe has a very large learning curve and not to mention a monthly subscription fee.

Recreating your given sample examples is not a simple one trick pony.

The two professional applications of my choice are Adobe's Illustrator and InDesign in this digital world.

It's all about grids and patterns.

I have created many crossword puzzles on a professional level for a series of educational Vocabulary books.

I am given a Word file and a mockup of how it should look.

It’s all part of a much larger picture. Fonts, book formatting, colors, size, etc.

Student Edition and also Instructor's Edition (with answers)

    Can be done in Illustrator.

I lean more towards InDesign Tables.

Make master templates. Styles and such and customizing from there with new text.

Tommy, tell us more about your interest here.

A passion/hobby and you now want to create your own word puzzles and then sell????

Old school, print out a grid sheet of paper and then pencil in words, color squares or angles.

I would create the puzzle grids in Illustrator and collate them with the text etc. in InDesign.

Okay - yes, it is rather vague.

I mean wordsearches, crosswords, dot-to-dats, sudokus, anagrams, word puzzles, multiple-choice question quizzes, wordwheels, those sort of puzzles.

You might want to post an example of what exactly you want to create.

We need a visual example, because "puzzle" can be anything.
