Question for Illustrator 10.0 License

Hi everyone.

I have a question about illustrator 10.0 license.

Our project must make CGM graphics only, and I know that illustrator 10.0 version supports opening, drawing, saving CGM files.

But I am not able to get copies of illustrator 10.0 now, because no one seems to selling them.

Am I able to buy higher version illustrator and downgrade them to 10.0?

Would there be any legal issues?

I am searching for the notice if Adobe noticed before about how to buy and use illustrator 10.0, but I couldn't find one yet.

If any one finds notice article, it would be very appreciated if you comment address for me.

Thank you for reading this article.

jae duk shin, Test Screen Name, CHMprepress,

The helpx page in post #2 only mentions the ability to open/place CGM, nothing about save/export, so I am afraid the older thread may be right.

Concerning the very important question of OS compatibility mentioned in post #3, which I had (maybe sillilly) presumed a non issue presuming other old applications running, is especially with MAC, on WIN it should be possible to install and run 10 with XP Compatibility/Mode.

But as I also said, 10 is very old (sometimes, old is good, you could still see her face just to mention one thing).

First, I am very thankful to you guys for your replies.

As Jacob mentioned, we tested illustrator CC version and found out that CC version can open and edit CGM format files, but can not save or export them as CGM file.

So we are considering to use illustrator 10, because this version is used widely in South Korea to make CGM format illustration.

But it is too old version to get many copies.

I will check out for SVG to CGM converter Test Screen Name mentioned and if you guys have any information to get and / or use many copies of illustrator 10.0, please let me know.

Once more, thank you.

p.s.

We tested illustrator 10.0 if it works on Win 7, 10 OS and it worked fine.

Jacob, you seem to be right. Alternate suggestion: look for an SVG to CGM converter.

You could also find it very difficult to run this software on newer machines and OS.

Do you realize Illustrator 10 was released more than 16 years ago, and obsolete 14 years ago? This is why it cannot be purchased. The current version of Illustrator (10 versions later) can still work with CGM according to this page Supported file formats for Illustrator

jae duk shin,

10 is very old.

Your question is in line with this older thread,

Opening .CGM files?

It is possible to buy an old version legally from someone that has stopped using it, but it is a matter of trust, and luck; maybe best from/through someone you know.

If the serial number has been registered with Adobe, a licence transfer is necessary:

http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/transfer-product-license.html

Before any (possible waste of time and money on at least one side by) sending of boxes, you could ask for the serial number(s, plural in case of upgrades), then (try to) register:

https://www.adobe.com/account/my-products-services.html

It may not be the ultimate test of a legal product, because Adobe is weeding out fake serial numbers.

But presumably, it is worth trying, and hoping for success on the first (or second) go.
