Quick way to deselect an object in Illustrator?

Is there a keyboard shortcut to deselect an object in Illustrator 28.3?

 

I use a Mac. I thought the Esc key might do it, but it doesn't.

Shift + Ctrl/Cmd + A by default.

You can edit it in Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts > Menu Commands

Are you perhaps suffering from a sticky selection. Do you have the Magnet app installed?
