Radial repeat bug?

Ive been trying to use the repeat radial feature but it doesnt work as expected.  I create a shape then i go object repeat radial. It creates a circle of shapes but then the interactive options dont work. I cant even unselect the shape.  It remains selected unless I create a new layer and put something on it.  Even when ive done so I still cannot manipulate the circle with the interactive options.  If I click back on the circle again I cannot unselect or select my other object unless I go to the layers panel and select the other object.  In the repeat options I can manipulate the circle with the arrows but not witrh the radius dial.  Is this a known bug at all?  Or am I missing something.  I watched some tuts and it seems to be a very simple process but not for me. Im using the latest version of illustrator on windows 10
