recover text

How can I recover a file in PDF format, whose text when I open it in Illustrator appears all in curves? That is, how can I recover the text and images that have been embedded when saved as a pdf. I don't have the original .ai file 😞
Is there any add-on or trick to do it?

For the text try the Retype feature. Or the plugin VectorFirstAid (not free). Or rasterize the text and have OCR read it.

For the images, you can use Adobe Acrobat Pro or Photoshop (if there are many of them) or the Illustrator Unembed function. If the images are embedded as RGB images in a document that is otherwise optimized for print (so CMYK), you might want to use Acrobat or Photoshop so you get the best possible quality.
