Redoing my preferences over and over again for IL Beta

I've been using Illustrator Beta on my desktop.

Works great.

BUT about once a week, I open it up and ALL the preferences have been reset.

So I have to redo all my preferences over and over again. So frustrating.

And I didn't even manually update the version. I assume it automatically updated and then reset my preferences.

Anyone know a fix in Beta that retains preferences even when you update?

Thanks!

    Hi @thomasl34294613,

I understand your frustration with the preferences resetting in Illustrator Beta. While this issue can be bothersome, as Monika shared above, there's a workaround that you can try to retain your preferences and here is another:

    • Before updating Illustrator Beta, make a backup copy of your preferences. You can do this by locating the preferences folder on your computer and creating a backup copy of it.

    • If your preferences get reset after an update, you can then copy your backed-up preferences back into the appropriate folder. This should restore your settings to what they were before the update.

Here's the location of the preferences folder on different operating systems:

    • Windows: C:\Users[Username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator Beta 28 Settings\
    • macOS: /Users/[Username]/Library/Preferences/Adobe/Adobe Illustrator Beta 28 Settings/

Please replace "[Username]" with your actual username.

By following this approach, you can prevent the frustration of having to redo all your preferences each time Illustrator Beta updates.

    I hope this helps!

Illustrator usually needs to reset preferences when you are updating.

This is even more true for the beta. After setting up the preferences in the way you need and relaunching Illustrator once  you can try the following: Edit > My settings > Export.

Then when you need it, Import them.
