Reduce size of gradient annotator

Is there a way to reduce the size of the gradient annotator? When I watch tutorials, their annotators are streamlined and slim (on right). Mine (on left) is bulky in comparison and sometimes obscures the object I'm working on. I tried working in large documents but that did not affect the size. Thx.
