Regular transform controls disappeared!

Im having an issue here in illustrator.

I think i must have once pressed the wrong button, because now i dont have the regular transform options on a shape. When i click on a shape, instead of having the regular boxes in each of the 4 corners, which allow you to rotate, scale etc, i just have a very small blue square at each corner.

In addition i cant just click any where on the shape and move it, i have to click right on the outer path line of the shape.

Can anyone help with this?
