Question

Remove outline from lines for laser engraving

FIrst off, I am not an illustrator user. I use CorelDraw as it was the preferred software for my laser manufacture.

Recently I had a drawing vectorized that was created in Illustrator. When I open the drawing in Corel, the lines show up as fills and not lined. When I vector engrave this, it reads the outline of the lines and passes twice. It also doesn't allow for me to edit the drawing as the lines all connected. If I break apart the lines, I am breaking the outline and not the line. I have run into this before and the creator was able to change a setting on their end and save it in such a way that I could open it as a single line.

These images show the natural view (black) and the wireframe view (red).

Thanks

Does this mean you got an Illustrator user to trace a raster image?

Yes, I have had someone take a drawing and create a vector file for me. They saved it as an .ai file type.
I have requested that they change this, but it seems to be a common occurrence so I would like to be able to figure this out myself. They are on the other side of the world, so it often takes a while for messages to be received.

    Hi Dave,

It appears that they used Image Trace and gave you fills, not strokes. If you post the .ai file through dropbox or another file sharing service, we can take a quick look.

I assume you only have CorelDRAW, not Illustrator?

Can you open the file in Illustrator? There might be a brush or other stroke attribute applied which gets expanded when opening in CorelDRAW (although CorelDRAW is impressive at opening AI files).

No I can't open this as I don't have AI. I do believe that you are correct that there is some simple setting that needs to be checked or unchecked to take care of this issue. I have run into it before using artisans on fiverr etc.
