Question

REPEAT PATTERNS slowing down performance considerably

I recently upgraded to Adobe 2020, yesterday I created an AOP (all over Print) repeat pattern using black & white bitmapped images. the whhole file is around 5MB, but it was very, very slow and laggy, to the point of frustration! This is the same way I've been making repeats for years, even with crappy PCs

It's really slowing my workflow down, and I just don't understand why?

Running Adobe 2020,

MacOS Catalina 10.15.7

Macbook Pro 2.9 Quadcore i7 16GB Ram

You can have multiple versions of Illustrator installed.

Try to install a previous version without removing the current one to compare the behaviour of your file between the versions. That way you can see if the problem is with the file or the version.

The previous version of Illustrator is CS6 and won't run on Catalina.

I'm attempting some more repeat patterns now to see if there is any difference in performance.

I did not know you  came from CS6.

Try a newer version like 2021 (and keep the 2020).

How do you create your patterns, the Pattern maker?
