Request: Restore Transparent or Dark Thumbnail Backgrounds in CC Libraries

Hi Adobe team,

I’ve noticed that recent updates to Illustrator have changed the thumbnail background in CC Libraries to white. This has made it very difficult to see white or light-colored graphics, especially logos or icons, since they blend into the background and become almost invisible.

Previously, the transparent or darker thumbnail background made it much easier to preview and organize assets — especially when working with branding files that include white elements.

Our ideal use for Libraries is to quickly navigate branding elements like logos, icons, and design components. This feature has always helped us work more efficiently and stay organized. However, now that we can't see the thumbnails for white graphics, it's significantly slowed down our workflow and made visual navigation much harder.

It would be incredibly helpful to either:

  • Restore the original transparent/dark background, or

  • Add an option to toggle thumbnail backgrounds (light/dark/transparent)

  •

Thank you for considering this! I really value the Libraries feature, and improving visibility would make a big difference in workflow and organization 🙂

Chat soon,
Bailey

Up until 18 months ago all adobe library assets defaulted to a dark grey background and the asset (whether it was white, black, etc.) could be seen. For some reason, adobe updated how graphics are displayed in libraries and now each background is white - making it difficult for me to view any graphics that use primarily white. Also, I've noticed that now Adobe doesn't fully display wide assets, instead, cropping them randomly. I'm not unable to distinguish assets apart aside from hovering over them and reading the name.

This is super frustrating to deal with, especially because it wasn't a problem until Adobe made it one. Anyone here have a fix to this or dealt with the issue themselves? Attached are two identical folders of graphics - one in full color and one in white so you can see how adobe is randomly cropping the assets.
