Resizing a file in centimeters for printing

Question

Hi,

If I have a file in illustrator that is 70 x 100 cm that I have created and want to print, is there a easy way to convert this file to a smaller size in centimeters (lets say 50 x 70 cm) in illustartor and keeping all ratios? Or should I just make a new one that is 50 x 70 cm from scratch? The reason I´m asking is that I´m creating prints with multiple colors and formats and it takes a great deal of time to adapt each one of them to different poster sizes (30 x 40 cm, 50 x 70 cm, 70 x 100 cm). The underlying prints are the same but the color and the size of the poster that they will be printed on vary.

What would be the easiest way to do this if I dont want to compromize on quality and have the same ratios in different products (posters).

Dejan,

You could use the ISO 216 International Standard paper sizes (default size A4) or something similar and get the exact same proportions for all sizes.

Or you can scale by using either measure or some average for each size. 70 x 100 and 50 x 70 are close to the ISO 216 (Landscape) ratios, so if you continue down to 35 x 50 instead of 30 x 40 you can just use 100 > 70 > 50 (and further down to 35 (x 24.5) ) for scaling down.

Otherwise, you will have to adapt to the inconsistent sizes and maybe sacrifice the original proportions as Doug says.
