Resolution issues, canvas too large, PSD imports too small

So here's what has happened.

I created a 1280x720 sized canvas in Photoshop CC. Upon importing the PSD file to Illustrator CC, the image and artboard appeared minuscule (about half the original size), even though the view was set at 100%.

Opened up the PSD file back in Photoshop, went into Image Size, and changed the resolution from 300 pixels/inch to 72 pixels/inch and unchecked the Resample box. Saved file.
Reopened PSD file into Illustrator. Photoshop file appeared larger than the original (about 100 pixels more all around) even though the view was set at 100%.
Tried viewing with Pixel Preview. The canvas and image were then all set to the perfect 1280x720 I was looking for! ... Except, hence the setting name, it's viewed in pixels. So when I zoom in, it's pixelated.
TL;DR: Illustrator is importing a Photoshop file bigger than its original canvas size.
My goal is to be able to import a Photoshop file into Illustrator as its exact same resolution with no canvas size changes whatsoever, be able to view Illustrator as a normal vector program, and finally put an end to this madness. I've been trying to solve this for over an hour.

The part in the "Note:" box solved it. Thank you so very much.
