Question

RGB color changing itself

I am trying to use the following color in Illustrator and InDesign. The color I want to use is RGB (0, 15, 255) / CMYK 100, 94, 0, 0 / hex #000fff. When I create the swatch in Illustrator and InDesign - it seems fine - BUT - when I click on it again, the values and the color have changed drastically.

I know that it's possible to create this color for web and print spaces. I see it on the web all the time and I have a pdf (someone else created) that uses this color.

Why are the colors shifting and what can I do to create this color myself?

Thanks!

That actual blue is only possible in web colors. It's not possible in print as it is out o gamut for printing. If you are wanting to print it, you will have to shift your colors around a bit. Not too drastically, but they will need to shift from this though.

sRGB is the perfect place to have it set for doing work for the web, so all good there. But you may have had your colors set to auto correct for the out of gamut.

I just checked and that particular color is actually out of gamut for printing. So depending on what settings you have for your documents, it might be shift the colors around due to that. If you set it for Only Web Colors, it should not shift around any more. Also, what color space do you have your documents set to? RGB, sRGB, CMYK? all of those can make a difference as well, especially the CMYK.

Thank you so much. I'm doing my best to understand so please bear with me as I ask for more clarification.

My document is set to sRGB. I'm attaching a link here (at the bottom) to the pdf I am viewing on-screen (please note: it is not my work). I am trying to recreate the blue for my own pdf.

The color is also on this website: http://handsoneveryday.com/about/

I assume that if I actually want to print it, I would need to use a pantone color. I am looking to create this blue in a pdf document to be viewed on-line.

If I set to Only Web Colors, I don't think this color is possible.

Thank you for your help
